Calculate your military promotion points by gathering documentation of all awards, orders for additional skill identifiers and certificates of training. Fill in a government form 3355 for your branch of service and turn in to your unit's personnel section. Ensure you have reached the appropriate time requirements according to your military branch regulations.

    • 2). Demonstrate proficiency and excel in all tasks you are assigned to encourage your chain of command to send you to a promotion board. Work one level higher than that which you are assigned and assume responsibility for every action which needs to be taken.

    • 3). Attend a military promotion board within your unit. You may earn up to 150 points in an Army promotion board which are distributed according to your ability to answer questions about military history, unit history, weapons and regulations. You will also be judged on your military appearance, bearing and professionalism.

    • 4). Reach the required number of promotion points by the time cutoff scores are posted by Human Resources Command. Points are given based on awards, achievements, military training and civilian education.
