    Gift

    • Get everyone in the office to pitch in a little money to cover the party and a gift for your boss. Depending on the type of gift you want, and how many people are contributing, the donation can be anywhere from $5 to $10 or more. Try to think of a gift that your boss will actually use and enjoy. If he enjoys sports, get him tickets to a local sporting event, or you can also get him golf clubs if you have a larger budget. If he is a reader, consider getting him books or a subscription to his favorite magazine, or a magazine you think he might enjoy. Purchase a birthday card to include with the gift and have everyone in the office sign it.

    Food

    • Food is an important part of a boss' office party, as it gives everyone the chance to enjoy some special treats during their normal day at the office. If it's a morning party, get bagels, donuts, juice and coffee for everyone. If you are planning a party during your lunch hour, consider having sandwiches or other food catered in to the office. If the party is during the afternoon, make a spread of snacks and appetizers for all your co-workers to enjoy. Make sure to get a cake as well, you can easily get a birthday cake made at a local grocery store or bakery for a reasonable price, or you can make your own. Make sure to get one big enough to feed all of the party guests.

    Activities

    • If you have time, plan activities to do during the office birthday party for your boss. If your boss has a sense of humor or enjoys karaoke, rent a karaoke machine for the party and have everyone take turns singing a song. You can also have people stand up and give a toast to your boss or say a nice sentiment about him as a person and as a boss. If you are technologically savvy, you can make a video for your boss to watch during the party. Interview his friends, family and co-workers and have them share sentiments or wish your boss a happy birthday with a personal message. This will be a fun thing for your boss to enjoy during the party and a nice gift he can take home and enjoy for years to come.

    Decorations

    • Your boss' birthday party needs decorations to get everyone in the party mood. You can decorate the entire office, your boss' personal office or cubicle or just a conference room or cafeteria center where you're having the party. You can purchase balloons, banners and crepe paper streamers for a relatively cheap price at a local party supply store. Make sure to decorate enough so everyone knows there is a party. You can also use photos or homemade signs as decorations as well. You can also cover any tables you may be serving food from or eating at with birthday-themed or colorful disposable table cloths.
