Income Tax Check Information
- If your income tax refund totals at least $1, you may receive payment via check or automatic deposit into your bank account. It is possible to split your refund among up to three checking or savings accounts.
- If you owe the IRS money, your income tax check may be withheld and the amount owed subtracted. Past-due child support, verifiable state back taxes, debts to other federal agencies, and future federal tax debt may also cause your refund to be withheld.
- You may check the status of your income tax check by calling the IRS refund hotline at 800-829-1954. You also may visit the IRS website and click on "Where's My Refund?" You need your Social Security number, filing status, and the exact dollar amount of your refund. Allow 72 hours after filing electronically or three weeks after a paper filing.
