103 2
Warren Buffett is a fascinating individual.
He is one of the richest man in the world and is known as the "Oracle of Omaha".
He is known as the greatest investor in the world because his investments (e.
g.
Berkshire Hathaway) have grown exponentially.
There are thousands of books written about him and his way of investing or any opinion that he may have.
This book,"The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America" by Lawrence Cunningham, reflects Warren Buffett's perspective on business that are invaluable for corporate America.
I would have never have heard of this book if it was not mentioned by Warren Buffett himself.
In an interview of Warren Buffett a few years ago, he was asked out of the many books written about him which one is his favorite.
Warren Buffet directly referred to this book.
He had glowing reviews about it.
He stated that this book is first class and does a great job at collating the business philosophy of his business.
Thus, it peaked my interest.
The book seems more like an academic book.
It looks and feels like a book a college student would buy for one of his or her classes.
Also, it is quite expensive compared to similar books on Buffett and investing.
The information from the essays are intriguing and educational.
Here are the key subject matter of the topics discussed by the book: * Corporate Governance * Corporate Financing and Investing * Alternatives to Common Stock * Common Stock * Mergers and Acquisitions * Accounting and Valuation * Accounting Policy and Tax Matters The topics are broken like an academic course with real-life applications.
It reflects Warren Buffett's perspective on investing because he looks more into the overall company (whether it is the popular soft drink company, Sees Candies, Fruit of the Loom, etc.
) rather than on the stock prices.
The stock prices and value are just one part of the overall perspective of the company.
When the company is well-run, the stock prices of the company will go up and not the other way around.
This is an essential success characteristic of how Warren Buffett looks at an investment.
Even if you are not a CEO of a company, you can still find a lot of value in this book.
The overall principles of a well-run and successful company can help anyone who are looking at stock values, running a small business, etc.
These principles and lessons are taught in this book through the many essays by Warren Buffet.
