Integrate Text with Artwork

• Converting type to outlines permits the text to interact with the Illustrator drawings. Whereas, only the color, font and size of text can be changed, outlined text as object outlines can perform many other operations on the drawing, such as masking and cutting.
  
  

Perform Operations on Text

• Converted type can transform with Illustrator filters, such as "Distort," "Stylize" and "Brush Strokes." Furthermore, the text can shear or skew to create twisted shapes or three-dimensional representations.
  
  

Adjust Typography Without Creating New Font

• Shapes of small amounts of text, such as titles and captions, can be adjusted to correct or alter font characteristics such as ascenders, stems and tails, without creating a new font.
  
  

Add Subjective Interpretation to Text

• Outlines of converted type can be transformed to illustrate the meaning or emotion of a word. For example, the bottom half of the word "dumpy" can be dropped and rounded with the stems skewed to create a feeling of slovenly bulkiness. Converting the type to outlines creates visual onomatopoeia.
