    • 1). Log into the control panel, sometimes called the "cPanel," of your hosting account.

    • 2). Locate the "File Manager" or "FTP File Manager" icon among the control panel options. Many hosting companies group this under a category called "Website" or similar. Certain companies such as GoDaddy or 1&1 require you to select the hosting account from a products page before granting access to the file manager tool.

    • 3). Click the appropriate button to create a new folder. In most cases, this is an icon depicting a folder and a plus (+) sign. Hover your mouse over the icons to show the title if you are unsure. The terms "New Folder" and "New Directory" are interchangeable, with some hosting companies opting to use one or the other to describe the same action.

    • 4). Type the name for the new subfolder and click the "OK" or "Create" button to integrate a subfolder into the root domain of your website.
