How to Change the File Association for XML
- 1). Locate the XML file you want to modify. If it is not readily available, such as on the Desktop, you can find it using a file management program such as Windows Explorer. To open this program, click the "Start" button and choose "All Programs." Then pick "Accessories" and "Windows Explorer." The Windows Explorer dialog appears.
- 2). Navigate to the XML file that you want. Right-click the file and choose "Open With" and "Choose Default Program." The Open With dialog appears.
- 3). Click one of the Recommended Programs, if you want the XML file to be associated with it. Otherwise, to locate other programs click the "Browse" button to display a standard Open dialog box.
- 4). Navigate to the program you want to associate with the file. Click to select it and then click the "Open" button. The Open dialog box closes, and that program, along with others in the folder, is listed under Other Programs in the Open dialog box.
- 5). Click the program name again to select it. Put a check by "Always Use the Selected Program to Open This Kind of File."
- 6). Click the "OK" button to associate the selected program with XML files.
- 7). Test the association by double-clicking on the XML file. It opens in the program you just associated with it.
