    • 1). Locate the icon for your computer's dial-up Internet connection in the Windows system tray. This icon automatically appears in the system tray for as long as your computer is connected to a dial-up Internet connection.

    • 2). Right-click on the icon you located in "Step 1."

    • 3). Click "Status."

    • 4). Look at the "Speed" portion of the "Status" window on screen. This will show you an actual readout of the speed at which your computer is connected to the dial-up Internet network, measured in kilobytes per second.
