Coptic
Definition:
Coptic is the final stage in the evolution of the language of ancient Egypt. It developed around 100 CE and is very closely related to the demotic form of ancient Egyptian which was used for the preceding millennium. Coptic more or less died out as a spoken language around the 15th century CE, but is still used in the Coptic Christian Church (much like Latin is used by the Roman Catholic church today).
