What's New on Medscape Nurses
For many of us, September is a month when we return to basics. At least for those of us in the Northern hemisphere, the more casual approach of summertime now gives way to the structure of school, shorter days, and perhaps a long list of things that need doing. With that thought in mind, this column will offer the basics to readers -- telling you about some structural changes we've made on the site, reviewing how to find the content you need, and highlighting new material.

New Feature: The biggest change you may notice on the site is the new Featured On section at the top left of the Medscape Nurses home page. This is the place where I highlight what I believe to be the best of what's new, from the Nursing site or anywhere else on Medscape. Featured On is updated at least twice each week, and more often when needed.

In addition to the specific items listed in Featured On, don't miss the More link in this section, which takes you to a complete page of recommended material. Here you will find highlights from journal articles, resources designed particularly for advanced practice nurses, our eJournal, Topics in Advanced Practice Nursing, and links to features like our Patient Education Center, Discussions, and so much more. This is another place to bookmark, or list in your Web "favorites," so you can always find the key items on the site.

More Key Links: In addition, some other key areas that readers are always asking about include:

What's New on the Site: We now have a new Job Center featured prominently on the site. If you are looking for a job (or you are an employer looking to hire), our partnership with Monster offers you all the information you need, right at your fingertips. Check it out if you haven't already.

New journals in our Library (coming soon!) include Pediatric Nursing, Nursing Economics, and Dermatology Nursing. Check out these and many others.

Another great new feature for nurse practitioners, pharmacists, employers, and insurers is the easy-access map offering information on US Nurse Practitioner Prescribing Laws in every state and Washington DC. This quick-access format is something that NP readers have told us is currently unavailable anywhere else on the Web. Let me know what you think.

A Final Thought: Unfortunately, September also reminds us of the events of last year. The editors at Medscape have decided to publish just a few materials directly related to this topic. Many of you have told us that doing too much might seem promotional or be unwelcome. But we believe that we need to take a moment to focus on the implications that those events have had on us all, especially as healthcare professionals. If you are interested, some related materials may be found at One Year Later: Medicine After September 11.
