The Do's and Don'ts of Pregnancy

• Certain Foods - Certain foods need to be avoided during pregnancy. Listeria, which is caused by uncooked meats, some seafood, unpasteurized milk and soft cheeses, can cause birth defects, miscarriages and stillbirth.
• Smoking - Smoking is an obvious no. It is worse for your baby's health than yours. It has been linked to a low birth weight, miscarriage and premature birth in many different studies. Second hand smoke poses the same dangers during pregnancy, and should be avoided at all costs.
• Caffeine - Some studies on caffeine during pregnancy have led to the conclusion that the two do not mix well together, as caffeine may increase the possibility of miscarriage and low birth weight. While caffeine is not entirely bad, you should try and limit yourself then amount you consume.
• Around the House - No woman can avoid having to clean her house, even while pregnant, but keep aware that industrial strength cleaners, bleach and the likes often emit toxic fumes that may limit the development of your baby.
• Body temperature - Maintaining your body at the optimum state is key for many things, including pregnancy. It is a good idea to keep an eye on your temperature during exercise and keep your fluids up. Things such as saunas and hot baths are not recommended during pregnancy.
• Alcohol and drugs - To be safe with alcohol during pregnancy it is probably best to avoid it altogether, as there is no safe level of consumption. Even a small amount can have detrimental affects on the small baby. Drugs are an obvious no go area, just as they should be in your own life. Psychoactive drugs can even affect your baby's mental, aswell as physical, development.
• Exercise - Exercise during pregnancy is recommended for most women, but only at a moderate pace. Heavier exercise which involves full-on effort levels is highly discouraged. Exercise like yoga, Pilates or some aerobics may have beneficial affects for you and your baby.

Nurturing a baby in your womb requires a lot of attention and consideration. People often don't give the baby the same regard as a person, because it is inside the body. But if you are ever in a pickle about something, perhaps the offer of a bungee jump or a line of cocaine, think to yourself: Would you make another child do this? Would you make a toddler do this? Then there is your answer.
