How to Directions for a Handmade Ladybug Costume
- 1). Measure the length and width needed for the wings. Use a measuring tape and determine the distance from the bottom of the neck to the top of the buttocks on the person who will be wearing the costume. Measure from shoulder to shoulder for the width.
- 2). Cut two large, orange ovals out of the felt using the measurements you took in Step 1.
- 3). Cut one piece of batting in an oval using the measurements from Step 1 less 1/4 inch for seams. For instance, if the width between the shoulders was 24 inches, cut the batting 23 3/4 inches wide.
- 4). Draw a line down the middle of one oval with a black marker. This will mark the center and divide the oval into the two wings.
- 5). Glue the two ovals together, batting between them, using a hot glue gun. The black line you drew should be on the outside.
- 6). Cut circles out of black felt. These will be the dots on the ladybug. Cut varying sizes. Glue the circles to the wings, using a hot glue gun.
- 7). Use safety pins to attach the wings to a T-shirt.
- 8). Twist two black pipe cleaners into spirals, like a corkscrew. Glue the spirals to a black headband.
- 9). Complete the costume with black leotard, tights and shoes.
