Most women cringe when they hear the words "bachelor party," which can bring up images of drunken debauchery in a last-minute attempt to sow figurative wild oats. Yet there are actually many ways for a prospective groom to enjoy a weekend or day of fun with his buddies sans hired strippers and pilgrimages to seedy clubs. Adventure weekends, sports outings and poker nights are just some of the ways a groom can have fun with his friends without annoying his bride-to-be. - Relive youth with a go-kart adventure. Two racing endurance karts image by Nicola Gavin from Fotolia.com
There are lots of adventure-type activities ideal for bachelor party weekends. Take a camping trip if possible to enjoy activities like fishing, hiking, swimming, kayaking/canoeing, boating and hunting. Rent a cabin, drive your RV or pitch a tent depending on the groom's preferences. State and national parks are perfect for such activities. Enjoy a day of fun in the mud if ATV parks are nearby. You can also try renting a speedboat or going whitewater rafting. Sky diving and bungee jumping are also options. Paintball, laser tag and go-karts are fun for most people and can be part of an amusement park trip. Road trips to points of interest/cities such as Graceland, Atlantic City and Las Vegas are additional options. - Is the groom-to-be a sports nut? Then enjoy a day at the ballpark or scream and shout at a football, basketball or hockey game. If you have a big enough group, look into renting a stadium suite or get box seats. Minor league teams often sell tickets for much less than pro sports teams if cash is an issue. Go for a round or two of golf if that's more your style and see if there are any indoor ranges close to you if you don't want to spend time looking for lost balls (although careening around in a golf kart can be very attractive). Indoor ranges often have big-screen televisions and food and drink facilities as well. Skiing and snowboarding are also options and you can make a weekend of it by staying at a ski resort. Rent a beach house for the weekend and enjoy activities like beach soccer and beach volleyball.
- Winery tours are a fun way to learn about different types of wine while getting your buzz on. New York City is home to several whiskey bars such as Whiskey Ward and Hudson's Bar and Books. You can arrange private whiskey tastings. Hudson's is also a cigar bar should you feel the need to break out the stogies. Book a reservation at a fine dining establishment to enjoy a steak dinner or other meal of choice. Renting a limo to take you to and from adds to the fun and can be utilized for any late-night bar crawls.
Additional fun ideas for bachelor parties include poker nights, video game weekends and a massage day at your local spa.
