    Update Firmware

    • Update the iPad iOS firmware to the latest version. You must do this from a Windows or Mac computer inside the iTunes application. To check for updates, connect your iPad to the computer and launch the iTunes software. The program should automatically check the Apple servers for the latest version. When you see the prompt, click the "Download and Update" button. If you do not see this option, then your iPad has the latest iOS firmware.

    Internet Connection

    • Since MobileMe syncs the account over the Internet, it is important that the device be connected to a nearby Wi-Fi or 3G connection. Open the Safari mobile browser on the iPad and go to a random or favorite website to see if it loads -- if it does, you have access to the Internet. If not, then you should troubleshoot the network settings by going to the "Settings" app from the home screen. In the "Settings" app, go to the "Wi-Fi" section and verify that the wireless Internet is turned on. The "Wi-Fi" slider switch will show "On."

    MobileMe Configuration

    • One of the more common reasons that MobileMe or another email provider is not syncing with you iPad is because it is not set up correctly. Check the MobileMe account configuration from the "Settings" app. From inside the settings, go to the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" section and tap the "MobileMe" account. You may have labeled it differently, so look for the label that matches your MobileMe account. Verify that the slider switches for "Mail," "Contacts" and "Calendars" are positioned to "On." Also, tap the email address to verify the correct "Apple ID" and "Password" are being used.

    MobileMe Account

    • Another issue that may cause you to lose temporary access to your MobileMe account is that the MobileMe website is down. Go to me.com in a Web browser on a Windows or Mac computer. Log into your account with your Apple ID and password. If you are able to log in, then the service is not down. If the service is down and you get a maintenance message, try accessing your MobileMe account at a later time.

    Reboot

    • The solution of last resort involves rebooting the iPad. To turn off the iPad, hold in the top power button, then move the red slider from left to right. The device may take a moment to turn off. Once it does, give it another moment and hold in the power button until you see the Apple logo. After the iPad reboots and goes to the home screen, try accessing the MobileMe account via the "Mail" app.
