    • 1). Load the animated GIF you want to work with onto your computer, either by downloading from an online site or transferring it from a digital source like a CD or flash drive.

    • 2). Open Photoshop CS3. Select "File" from the menu and click "Open." In the dialog that pops up browse the folder where you saved the GIF file, even though you will not see the GIF file listed.

    • 3). Type *.* in the space for the file name and click "Enter" on the keyboard. This will cause the program to show all the files of any type in the folder.

    • 4). Select the GIF file you loaded and open it. A new dialog will pop up. Click "OK" to import the file.

    • 5). Select "Windows" from the menu at the top and choose "Animation." A timeline will pop up at the bottom of the screen. Your GIF animation will appear as frames at the bottom, and you can now edit the GIF. For example, you can add a single text layer that will appear over all the frames of the GIF. To do this select the "Text" tool and type in your text. It will automatically appear in its own layer at the top.

    • 6). Select "File" (when you are done editing) and click "Save for Web or Devices." In the dialog that pops up select GIF as the file type. Click on the "Save" button at the bottom of the dialog. In the next dialog name your file and save it.
