Setting Up your iPod

• 1). Download the iTunes application from the Apple website and follow the installation instructions. Apple iTunes is a music manager that will allow you to put music (and other media) on your iPod.
  
  
• 2). Connect your iPod to your computer using the iPod's included USB cable. Your computer will recognize your iPod and initiate the iTunes application.
  
  
• 3). Click "Yes" when asked if you want to sync your iPod to iTunes. This initial process may take up to 10 minutes or longer because the application will search for and download hardware updates for your iPod. After the process is complete, any music that you add to the iTunes library on this computer will sync with your iPod the next time you connect the device to the computer.
  
  

Importing Music CDs and Audo Files

• 1). Import audio files to iTunes by dragging them into the iTunes playlist. The application will automatically copy the audio files into its library. As of version 9, the iTunes application supports the MP3, WAV, AIFF, and AAC audio file formats.
  
  
• 2). Import music CDs by loading them into your computer drive and then clicking on the CD/DVD drive button in the left-hand menu of the iTunes interface. Click on "OK" when asked if you would like to import the CD to your iTunes library. This process will take several minutes because iTunes needs to pull the audio tracks off the audio CD and convert them to a digital file format for storage.
  
  
• 3). Click on the "iPod" button in the left-hand menu of the iTunes interface. Click on the "Sync" button to add the music currently in your iTunes library to your iPod.
  
  

Adding Music Through The iTunes Store

• 1). Click on the "iTunes Store" button in the left-hand menu in the iTunes interface. Click on "Create New Account" and follow the directions for creating your iTunes Store account. When asked to input a payment option, you can either input your credit card number or an Apple iTunes gift card number.
  
  
• 2). Purchase music by clicking on the "Buy" button next to any audio track in the iTunes Store. You will be prompted to confirm your purchase and the track will be automatically downloaded to your iTunes library.
  
  
• 3). Click on the "iPod" button in the left-hand menu of the iTunes interface. Click on the "Sync" button to add the music currently in your iTunes library to your iPod. The time for this task will vary depending on the number of new files.
