Cheers for Eco Friendly Diwali
With Diwali the time has come for get-together and parties.
There are various things that need to be done during Diwali like cleaning of the house, decoration, yummy sweets, puja etc.
We are going to do all these things again this Diwali with lots of zeal and excitement but why not do these in as Eco-friendly manner as possible.
With time, the manner of celebrating Diwali has changed a lot.
Though the essence is still the same but the focus has shifted from lighting the whole world with diyas to more of bursting crackers and artificial illumination.
As Diwali also signifies New Year in the Hindu religion, let us also make a new start by celebrating Eco-friendly Diwali.
Whatever thoughts I am going to share here are just simple things that we can do and celebrate the festival without polluting the environment.
To start with, the soul of Diwali is to have light everywhere.
Instead of using artificial illumination which works with electricity, use traditional diyas which not only saves electrical energy but also add to the beauty of your house.
The light produced by lots of diyas together is simply unmatchable.
The most exciting part of Diwali especially for kids and young people is bursting of crackers.
Now a days Eco-friendly fire crackers are available which are made from recyclable paper and non-toxic materials.
They produce sounds which are under the decibel limit prescribed by the Pollution Board.
It will save the aged people and small kids from the irritation of blasting sounds produced by bombs etc.
Diwali is also a time for cleaning, painting and decorating the house.
Use Eco-friendly paints which are readily available in the market and are good for both the environment as well as for our health.
For decoration purpose do not use things made from plastic.
Instead use fresh flowers, make rangolis, use colourful lamps and beautiful decoration items made from clay.
I am sure you will prefer this type of decoration more than the one you have been doing in the recent past.
Diwali is also a time for sharing lots of gifts.
Try not to waste paper in wrapping these gift items, instead use colourful cloth or jute bags for gifting purpose.
So, this Diwali let us give a gift to our nature also by celebrating this full of light festival in the manner which is favourable to the environment.
Happy Diwali to all!
