What Is the People's Pharmacy?
- In 1976, People's Pharmacy founder Joe Graedon published his first book, "The People's Pharmacy." This bestseller was one of the first books to provide comprehensive drug and health information to consumers. Since then, he, his wife Terry, and their colleagues have written or co-authored 14 other books, published a newsletter, done a number of radio broadcasts and speaking engagements, and run an interactive People's Pharmacy website.
- Joe and Terry Graedon founded the People's Pharmacy and oversee its operation. They are a couple with a passion for helping people make informed decisions about their health. Joe is a pharmacologist and Terry is an anthropologist. Aside from their publications and speaking experience, both have taught at the college level. Joe has also served as a consultant to the Federal Trade Commission and has been an editorial advisor for the magazines "Men's Health Newsletter" and "Prevention." Finally, he has served as a board member for the American Botanical Council and the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
- The People's Pharmacy does a weekly radio broadcast that is available on radio stations throughout the United States. It is also accessible through the organization's website and for purchase on CD. Program topics range from national health news to healthy living to remedies for specific ailments. The People's Pharmacy founders and their colleagues have also spoken as guests on national radio and television news and talk shows about drugs, herbs, home remedies, vitamins and other health topics.
- The People's Pharmacy operates an interactive website designed to provide users with information about all of its publications and broadcasts. It also has forums, question-and-answer pages, and information pages about ailments, drugs and remedies.
- Aside from books, the People's Pharmacy has released other publications, including articles in syndicated newspapers about drugs, remedies and a range of other health topics, providing in-depth guides on topics from treatments for depression to cold remedies to battling baldness.
