Shopping For an RC Helicopter - Must Have Notes For the First Purchase

103 12
Before you go shopping for an RC Helicopter, you want to know a few terms to help you narrow down the search and get what you want.
You could get confused easily with some unfamiliar terms.
Then you need to know what to buy.
What tools you will need, is not crucial but makes it easier if you have the right tool for the job.
The types of helicopters include gas powered, nitro, electric, and turbine.
Another key point to look for when buying a helicopter is the terms ARF and RTF.
ARF is almost ready to fly.
RTF is ready to fly.
This shouldn't need any more explanation.
If you are in a hurry to get in the air get an electric RTF helicopter.
What is needed to get started: helicopter, radio system, engine, exhaust, starter motor, glow plug driver, screwdrivers, hex drivers, pliers.
These are just a few of the tools needed.
You should be able to get by with just a basic tool set.
The radio system is a crucial part to the flying experience.
You don't want to skimp here.
Get yourself the nicest radio system you can afford.
The radio system should be listed on the box of the helicopter or listed in the recommended parts on websites when purchasing the copter.
The more channels the radio has the better.
But buy a good popular brand name radio system, that way if you end up with questions about it the instructor or experienced pilot can help you.
The gyros are what sends the radio systems commands to the part needed to be controlled.
You want to get the newest ones available and compatible with your heli and RC radio system.
The gyros will protect the helicopter from sudden changes in the tail and it tells the servo to fix it.
To keep it simple check recommended parts for your helicopter.
The engine and exhaust are important.
You can find some very nice engines.
Check your helicopters suggested engine size.
Then go from there.
The exhaust will need to be agreeable with engine.
Sometimes you may find them sold together as a kit.
I would get that the first time.
As you can tell this is not a cheap hobby.
I would spend what was in my budget but definitely go for the upper quality and price for the radio system.
Of course you can get a cheap helicopter but it is not nearly as much fun.
Happy flying!
