Bad Photography Related Habits

We all have bad habits, and some are connected to our work. In the instance of a photographer, some of these may sound familiar!

I photoshop people in my head. Whether I see people on TV or in person, if i've been spending a lot of time editing photos recently I tend to continue the job on people outside my Photoshop window.

I imagine how something would look in photos. Often the first thing I say when I see a gorgeous location, object or item is: "Ooh, that would look great in a photo shoot!"

I feel the urge to go up to people with newborn babies to ask if they have had newborn photos taken yet.

I bring an expensive camera with me on holiday. Why is this a bad habit, you ask? Well, would you bring your job with you on holiday?? I tell myself every time that I will leave the camera at home this time and make due with my phone camera for holiday snaps, but I never do.

I work while on holiday. Not only do I bring my camera when going away on holiday, I also organize photoshoots with family and friends! Why? I really have no idea. I must love my job, or something..?

I always lose the lens cap. Always. Sometimes I haven't found it for days after misplacing it during a shoot. It's a miracle I have managed to find it again every time.

I take compliments with a grain of salt and criticism to heart like it owns me.

I have big dreams. Massive. Not necessarily always a bad thing, but deep down I know I will never go from being a wedding photographer in Brisbane to becoming a staff photographer for Vogue.

I always wonder how I could make my photography better if I won millions in lotto. All the great equipment I could buy, the amazing locations I could shoot at, all the fantastic stuff I could offer clients and how I could grow my business to become super successful.

I often take a whole series of photos of a certain set-up, thinking I can do better and perfect how it looks in camera, but then I end up using the first photo I took.

I am way too trigger happy. I will take about 1200 photos of an average wedding, and 300 photos of an average portrait session. It makes my job a lot harder when I have the cull them down to the best photos to edit.
