Roundworms are the most common parasite found in the digestive tract of dogs and cats, according to the Pet Education website. These worms can cause disease in humans, which is why it is important to get rid of them. Commercial products are available; however, they are expensive. Home remedies and natural herbs are a more affordable way to rid your pet of roundworms. - Cinnamon and peppermint are natural herbs that will aid in the digestion process for your pet. These herbs will help flush worms out of the digestive tract. The herbs do not taste bad so just apply a few drops of oil to your pet's regular meal daily. The oils are available at most health food stores.
- Garlic will help the expulsion of roundworms in your pet. Add 1/2 clove for small pets or two large cloves for bigger pets to their meal. Chop or grate the garlic up really fine for your pet.
- Cook a package of oatmeal and feed it to your pet. The thick oats will help to carry the roundworms out of the digestive tract of the pet.
Grated carrots or turnips will also work for carrying out the roundworms. - Wormwood is an herb that comes in a liquid or powder form. The pure oil of wormwood is poisonous and should always be diluted. Use the recommended dosage of diluted oil or powder (per bottle instructions) and feed to your pet. Wormwood is a digestive tonic that will expel the worms through the digestive tract.
- Purchase the natural DE from your local health foods store, but make sure you do not purchase the DE that is made for swimming pools. Add 1 tbsp. of DE to each meal until the roundworms are gone. DE is fossil remains that will cut through the skeletons of insects and cause them to dehydrate.
- Slippery elm is a soothing herb that helps heal an irritated digestive tract. Give this herb to your pet (use amount as directed on bottle) daily until the worms are gone. This herb is available at most health food stores and online.
- After trying these remedies for at least one month if your pet still has worms, you will need to take them to your local veterinarian to be checked out.
