• Odors in your hot tub can be caused by the chemicals used to keep the water clean, leading to an oppressive chemical odor. A clogged filter can contribute to this odor. Algae buildup within your hot tub can lead to a musty, unpleasant smell.
  
  

Solutions

• Test the water in your hot tub often to be sure you have the right amount of chemicals in it. Every week, remove your hot tub's filter and rinse it clean with your garden hose. This will allow it to better trap dirt and other contaminates. If algae is the source of the smell, drain your hot tub, clean it and install a new filter before refilling it.
  
  

Considerations

• You can add oils to your hot tub's water to give it a pleasing scent. Add three drops of an essential oil like eucalyptus, lavender or tea tree oil for every person who will be using your hot tub. Keep in mind that the scent will linger until your hot tub's filter removes all the oil. You will need to rinse the filter the next day to prevent oil from reducing the filter's efficiency.
