How to Remove Felt Paper From Hardwood Floors
- 1). Direct heat from your heat gun at the attached felt paper. As the paper begins to heat up, scrape at the paper, following your wood floor's grain.
- 2). Wet a rag with your mineral spirits, and apply the spirits to the tar paper to further soften it. Scrape away as much felt paper as you can with the putty knife.
- 3). Wet another rag with paint stripper, if all your other efforts have failed to completely remove the felt paper. Apply the stripper-soaked rag directly to the felt paper. You shouldn't need to scrape; the paper will seem to melt and then can be wiped away.
- 4). Sand the affected areas of your floor after you've removed all the felt paper.
