  The two-day Johnny Appleseed Festival (johnnyappleseedfest.com) in Fort Wayne takes place every September in historic Archer and Johnny Appleseed Park. Featuring more than 200 craft and food booths, all vendor participants are required to dress in reproduction clothing from the 1800s. Attendees are entertained by demonstrations including spinning wheels, blacksmithing and music. In addition, a "Johnny Appleseed" character makes appearances at the festival, giving children the opportunity to meet the folk hero.
  
  

Crystal Lake, Illinois Festival

  Held in historic downtown every September, the Crystal Lake Johnny Appleseed Festival (downtowncl.org) is a one-day event featuring family activities. Pony rides, clowns, wagon rides and a pie-baking contest are highlights of the festival, and a "Johnny Appleseed" character provides a meet-and-greet opportunity for children. Appleseed also takes part in a storytelling event, and a craft fair takes place in the parking lot of Ornsby Motors. Vendors display crafts and offer culinary delights as well.
  
  

Lisbon, Ohio Festival

  The annual Lisbon Johnny Appleseed Festival takes place in September and is produced through the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce (lisbonchamber.com). Held in historic downtown Lisbon, this two-day festival features a 5k run, parade and the crowning of Little Miss Apple Blossom and Little Mr. Apple Bud. Additional highlights are the 1950s car cruise, kids crafts, live entertainment and line dancing. Art enthusiasts will enjoy photography and art contests and quilt shows. Apple-related dishes including fritters, butter, ice cream and fudge are served at the festival.
  
  

Sheffield, Pennsylvania Festival

  For six years, the three-day Johnny Appleseed Festival (johnnyappleseedfest.net) has taken place in October at Memorial Field. The schedule of events for 2011 includes antique tractor pulls, a lumberjack competition and apple pie-baking contest. Food and craft vendors also take part in the festivities.
