How to Optimize Virtual Memory Space
- 1). Click the "Start" menu and launch the Control Panel. Click "System and Security" followed by "System." Launch "Advanced System Settings" to the left of the screen. Note that within Windows Vista, "System and Security" is renamed to "System and Maintenance," while the rest of the procedure remains unchanged.
- 2). Select "Settings" from the Performance category. Select the "Advanced" tab and click "Change" within the Virtual Memory section.
- 3). Deselect "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives." Select "Custom Size" and enter the amount of disk space, in MB, that you wish to set as virtual memory. Enter a minimum and a maximum size in their respective categories. Click "Set" to apply your changes, then click "OK" to exit the System Properties menu.
