How Do I Know If My iPhone 3G Is Jailbroken or Not?
- 1). See if the "Installer" app is visible on the home screen. It would appear as a blue icon with the word "Installer" written beneath. Installer allows you to access third party apps and always indicates a jailbroken iPhone. Other third-party installer apps include "Cydia" and "Icy," both of which indicate that your iPhone is jailbroken.
- 2). Look for any irregularities on your iPhone. Your background should always appear black, your apps should all appear the same size and you should not see any text on your home screen except for the app names, the current time, your available Internet connection and the word "AT&T." If your screen looks any different, you have a jailbroken iPhone.
- 3). Check for any unusual apps and search for them in the Apple app store. Aside from the standard Apple apps on the first page of your screen, such as "Maps," "Stocks" and "Calculator," every app should be available in the app store. If your iPhone contains any apps of unknown origin, then you probably have a jailbroken device. Apple only authorizes app downloads from the app store.
- 4). Attempt to install apps from websites other than the Apple app store. If you have attempted to jailbreak the iPhone yourself and want to test the success of your endeavor, you can know for sure by trying this method.
