How to Make a Guitar From Recyclables
- 1). Save an old cereal box and empty out the contents. The recycled box will serve as the body of the guitar. Glue the open end of the cereal box shut by applying a thin layer of glue across the length of the top flap. Let the glue dry completely.
- 2). Paint the box with non-toxic paint. Use your brush to apply a thick layer of paint to the entire surface of the cereal box. Let the first coat dry. If you can still see the print on the recycled box, apply a second coat of paint. Let the paint dry completely.
- 3). Cut a whole in the center of the cereal box. Use scissors to cut an oval-shaped hole that is 8-inches long and 3-inches wide at the center. This is the opening in the body of your guitar.
- 4). Attach a cardboard paper towel roll to the end of your cereal box. This is the neck of your guitar. Apply a small amount of glue to the end of the paper towel roll. Place the paper towel roll in the center of one end of the box. Let the glue dry completely.
- 5). Use an assortment of 6 old rubber bands for guitar strings. Place the old rubber bands around the body of your guitar. Each rubber band should lay across the opening on the guitar body. Stretch the rubber bands around the body of the guitar according to their thickness. Use your thickest rubber band as the first string and order the other bands accordingly.
