How to Make a Living With a Temp Agency
- 1). Use the phone book or Internet to find the names, addresses and phone numbers of all the temporary employment agencies that are located near you.
- 2). Get your resume in order and up to date. Make sure that you have a list of references with phone numbers and dates of employment.
- 3). Call the agency to get a feel for the personnel and how the business is run. Inquire as to what type of industries they represent and see if they will give you any information about what kind of jobs they have available.
- 4). Arrange for a time to visit the agency and fill out an application. The agency may have an open-door policy, where any time is good to complete an application, or they may want to schedule you for a specific time of day, so that they can conduct some skill testing at the same time.
- 5). Go to the agency and complete the application and arrange for an interview. An interview should be forthcoming if you have a work history that can be verified. It is a good idea to go through with the interview process, even if there looks like there are few job prospects at the agency.
- 6). Attend the interview with a good attitude. Be polite and cordial. This is the time to inform the temp agency staff that you are interested in long-term employment.
- 7). Accept only jobs that you feel will fulfill both your career advancement and financial needs. If they offer you temporary employment while they are searching for a full-time job, you will have to weigh your options. Although taking on a preliminary job to reach a higher goal may be of benefit, try to ascertain whether the job offered will actually help you in the long run.
- 8). Put in applications with more than one agency to better your chances. On the other hand, don't "paper the walls" of the temp agencies with your application. Go with several agencies that you feel will help you the most.
