It is a very odd state of affairs, but if all the bugs were counted up, we would find that we are outnumbered by about one million to one.
We, as human beings, have come and gone through thick and thin it would seem, but these bugs and crawly things have been there since before the dinosaurs! Because they have evolved so much, insects are perhaps amongst the few creatures who abandon their young soon after the eggs have been deposited.
And they deposit these eggs on anything at all, including living things! One thing that all eggs have in common though is that they develop inside the mother.
So one would think, if the egg is already inside the mother, how does this egg get fertilized.
Well, the answer is very simple; one end of the egg has a hole through which the sperm gets in.
The sperm, in fact, can remain alive for years just waiting for its chance to do the job and this is where they are more advanced than us for sure.
Most animal species on earth will actually bring food to their young, but insects and bugs abandon the eggs as soon as they are out there in the world.
This is probably why they outnumber the rest of us since they are hidden in all kinds of places and are often too tiny to be seen by other predators.
But it is not only other predators that are the problems for these tiny sacs of life.
Some other insects actually inject their own eggs into living eggs of other species so that their young have some food source at hand when they hatch.
However, there are some groups of insects who have gone back to caring for their young over the generations.
For examples, some roaches actually carry their newborn babies on their backs.
Considering what we think of these horrible little creatures, it is strange to think that they are actually decent mothers now and then.
Indeed, dung beetles actually roll the heavy dung ball especially for their offspring with the carrion beetle actually rolling along dead bodies for the same purpose.
So, as in all things natural, there are exceptions to the rule.
Whereas most bugs lay their eggs on just about anything, others have gone back to doing what nature intended, and that is the mother taking care of the young.
All this being said, and no matter how much we admire the way in which these bugs take care of themselves, it is a fact that most of us hate them with a vengeance and we will do anything to be rid of them.
Of course, there is always something that can be done to kill off these creepy crawlies, but it is obvious that they will always be there no matter if man gets blown up or not! It is said that if there should ever be a nuclear war, roaches will be the only thing that will survive, that shows how tough these creatures are.
