103 1
It's morning again, and time for moms and dads to rush off to work.
Time to get the kids ready for daycare or school...
that busy AM time when everyone makes sure they have everything required for the day.
But, for many of us we forget the most important part of every morning.
What is that, you may ask? Well, the answer is breakfast.
Many times, and I'm guilty of this as well, there simply is just not enough time to eat in the mornings.
So, we rush out the door, sometimes grabbing some junk food, which we refer to as "energy" or "emergency snacks" to tide us over until lunch time.
Somehow or other, we always manage to survive.
But is this healthy? Moms and dads are role models for children, and forming good breakfast habits during childhood is very important.
Studies show that many school children start the day without a nutritionally adequate or no breakfast at all.
Many schools are now incorporating breakfast into their morning curriculum.
During the night, the blood sugar level falls to what is called the "fasting level.
" When children rush off to school without something to eat, they will become fatigued quickly and lack attention in class.
Therefore, it is important to form good breakfast habits early in life.
Organization is probably the key factor in making sure that breakfast becomes a part of our hectic morning schedule.
Here are some tips to save time in the morning, in order to have that extra time for breakfast: 1)Always plan ahead.
Probably the MOST important and helpful tip is to get organized the night before.
Decide what you need in the morning and pack into bags, folders, or other containers and put all items in one general area.
This saves time running around and looking for everything in the morning.
2)Decide what to wear.
Girls seem to have a hard time deciding what to wear, so by completing the decision process about "what to wear" the night before, saves a lot of time in the morning.
It also helps to start the day on a brighter note.
Moms can get real frustrated with their children in the mornings due to rushing around and lack of time.
Frustration tends to start the day off in a frenzied state or with a grouchy attitude.
3)Moms and dads can have the children go to bed an extra 15-30 minutes earlier, and then get up a little earlier.
This allows extra time for breakfast.
If this doesn't work, the following idea may be helpful: Baggie or Pocket Breakfasts.
These can be made the night before and carried along to be eaten on the bus, in the car or at the office: Breakfast Idea #1 - Banana Loaf Slices, Block Cheese Slices, Small Can of Juice.
Breakfast Idea #2 - Cheese Sandwich, Fresh Fruit, Small Can of Juice Breakfast Idea #3 - Hard Boiled Egg, Bread with butter, Small Can of Juice.
Breakfast Idea #4 - Yogurt, Block Cheese Slices, Crackers, Small Can of Juice.
These Baggie or Pocket Breakfasts are easy and quick to prepare.
I find that using zip-lock baggies is a perfect way to pack cheese slices and crackers.
They make zip-lock baggies in the snack-size as well, which is really convenient.
Lunches are usually packed the night before, so why not take a few extra minutes and pack breakfast as well? If you use paper bags, you can label them "breakfast" and "lunch" Working moms and dads, you will find that by being more organized in the mornings, and having a baggie or pocket breakfast will help improve your child's ability to concentrate in school, have more energy, and overall, just feel a lot more healthy.
For moms and dads as well, having a baggie or pocket breakfast and being organized helps to avoid many frustrations and helps get the day off to a healthy and happy start.
