Imagine this: It's exciting when you find the home that you like.
You move in and find that it is just right for you and your family.
You know where everything is and how you will decorate it with your stuff.
You spend the time placing everything just perfect and then run down to the store for groceries.
When you come back everything is gone.
Because you were not the only one who had a key to your home you lost everything.
How can you prevent this from happening? There are several ways to keep your home protected with some simple techniques.
Change the locks: The first day you arrive, plan to change the locks first thing.
Your locks will mean the difference between someone else having a key and no one having a key.
When you think about it who had a key to that home? The previous owners, the Realtor, the owners before the last ones, family members, and friends, everyone who knew the home owners had access to a key.
When you get a chance, be sure to change the window locks as well, Fire Extinguishers: Every year, fire destroys homes.
When you lose your home to a fire you lose everything that you have ever owned.
The world as you know it is never the same again.
Installing a fire extinguisher is the first step in preventing a fire from getting out of hand.
The second step is to teach everyone in the house how to use the fire extinguisher and when to use it.
No matter what age your kids are it is great to learn how to use a fire extinguisher.
Smoke Detectors and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Smoke detectors can warn you that there may be a fire in the home.
When you hear the detector going off you know that you need to find the fire.
These are very beneficial while people are sleeping because you may not be aware that a fire is starting.
Carbon Monoxide is known as 'the silent killer' and can not be detected unless you have a Carbon Monoxide Detector.
Carbon Monoxide can not be seen so you need to rely on a detector to alert you if there is a possible leak.
First Aid Kit: A first aid kit is great to have in any home.
Inside your first aid kit should be directions on first aid emergencies so you will know what to do and how to do it.
A first aid kit should also include bandages, tape, ointment, tweezers, thermometer, bandages for burns and more.
The first aid kit should be put out of the reach of children just in case it contains any medicine that children do not need to have access to.
First aid kits can be purchased at stores or you can make your own.
Do what ever it takes to keep your family safe and your home protected.
Life happens fast and preparing for it will minimize the affects that it has on you.
