Green Living - What, Why, and How?

103 11
What is green living and why should you care? Green living, sometimes called sustainable living, involves making choices and leading the type of lifestyle that makes as little impact on the planet as possible.
Let's face it, the earth is getting pretty crowded, and what may have made sense for individuals a few hundreds years ago doesn't make sense anymore.
We can easily use up the earth's resources and make a mess of it environmentally as well if we are not careful.
Green living starts at home, so try to make good choices at home.
For example, we use natural cleaning supplies like borax, vinegar, and baking soda as much as possible instead of chemical laden alternatives.
We recycle religiously, which is actually pretty easy and convenient in most communities.
By recycling, I don't just mean stuff that might normally end up in the garbage, but also clothes and toys the kids have outgrown and things the adults no longer use.
We donate these all to appropriate places.
We also try to use as little fuel as possible.
Turning off unneeded lights is simple.
So is combining multiple trips in the car; it just requires a little planning.
And instead of mowing the lawn with a power mower or using a snow blower in the winter, I use a handmower and a shovel.
Hey, I need the exercise anyways and it lets me skip a trip to gym.
Green living is not a switch you suddenly flip.
You can slowly start changing your lifestyle and choices, and just may find you enjoy many of the changes.
For example, I wouldn't give up the home herb and vegetable garden for anything!
