    • 1). Obtain a seed from the type of tree you wish to grow from a store or by finding in nature. The World Wildlife Fund and the United Nations' Environment Programme Billion Tree Campaign suggests you select a species of tree that grows naturally in your area.

    • 2). Select the location to plant your tree. Make sure the location is one that can accommodate the type of tree you are growing at its full height. Select an area that has plenty of space and good light.

    • 3). Push your finger (or a pen) into the soil, creating a hole that is about 1 inch deep.

    • 4). Place the seed inside the hole.

    • 5). Push dirt back over the hole.

    • 6). Register your planted tree to be counted as part of the United Nations' Environment Programme Billion Tree Campaign at http://www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign/index.asp.

    • 7). Water your seeds often, reducing the frequency of watering as the seedlings begin to grow.
