A good sign of fleas is when you see your dog constantly biting, itching or scratching himself. It is actually very easy to treat a dog for fleas, as there is vast number of different flea control methods that are available. It is important to know that an infestations of fleas does not only mean bad news for the pet it can also be bad for the home as there is more than likely going to fleas around the home.

Fleas do not only bite dogs as they also bite humans and the bites from fleas can cause things such as skin irritations. Some people and animals that are allergic to the bite can develop rashes that can sometimes be very bad. If you find that there is an infestation of fleas it is very important to treat the problem as fleas can rapidly turn into something that is very serious.

There are some simple rules that should be followed in order to treat fleas and keep flea infestations to a minimum. These rules involve a degree of work however the effort is very much rewarded in a good system of flea control.

One of the first things that should be done is to wash all towels, clothing, upholstery and sheets in warm soapy water in order to get rid of any fleas and bacteria. Once this has been done it is then important to clean the floors and carpets thoroughly in order to get rid of fleas and flea dirt. The third step in the flea control process is to wash the pet in warm soapy water in order to get rid of the fleas from the coat and it may be an idea top use special shampoo that is designed for fleas. Once all three of these steps have been completed it may be a good idea to use a flea collar in order to keep fleas at bay.
