How to Apply for an Overseas Job
- 1). Start collecting leads and contacts for potential employers. Attend networking sessions offered through your alumni network and international job fairs available in your area. Browse social networking sites such as LinkedIn and Twitter.com for international positions that match your qualifications, career goals and location preferences. Search for online job postings on corporate websites and employment databases, foreign newspapers and trade offices.
- 2). Put together a spreadsheet that consolidates all of the data you have gathered in your job search. Jot down the company names, locations, job titles, and work and citizenship eligibility requirements in your worksheet. Use this as a guideline when you are ready to apply for your job.
- 3). Create a curriculum vitae (CV) for countries that prefer CVs over resumes. Consult self-help books in your library or websites that offer guides and templates for creating an effective CV. Include relevant work experience, education, volunteer work, research projects, professional affiliations and any professional publications that you have authored. Make sure to include a cover letter that is addressed to the actual hiring manager, rather than "Dear Sir/Madam" or "To Whom it May Concern."
