How to Eliminate Calcium Buildup in Water Pipes
- 1). Turn off the main water supply to the whole house.
- 2). Mix a 50/50 solution of a calcium and lime reducing product such as CLR with water and pour down the drains to the sinks, toilet and bathtubs.
- 3). Remove the faucets from the sinks and tub, and soak them in pure white vinegar for three to four hours. Cleaning Tips suggests that vinegar is a natural and effective method in removing calcium and magnesium deposits from surfaces.
- 4). Reduce calcium buildup in the long run by installing a water softening system. The water softening system will remove minerals in hard water, thus limiting the buildup in pipes. This solution is more expensive but longer-lasting.
