How to Add Gels to Latex Paint for Thickening
- 1). Place a 5-gallon bucket on top of a thick, absorbent canvas drop cloth.
- 2). Pour 3 gallons of latex paint into the bucket. Don't add more than 3 gallons, to avoid splattering.
- 3). Add 1 cup of hydroxyethyl cellulose gel to paint. Stir the mixture for 30 seconds, using a wooden stirring stick.
- 4). Screw the mixing paddle onto your power drill. Lower the paddle into the gel and paint before starting the drill.
- 5). Start the drill and allow it to run for no less than three minutes.
- 6). Stop the drill before removing the paddle, or paint will splatter in all directions.
- 7). Add more thickening gel for thicker results.
