  The 1970s started the transformation of many muscle cars into sedans and family cars because of tighter federal laws, stricter emission standards and higher insurance costs. Chevrolet was one of the leading manufacturers of muscle cars that were affected by this transformation. The company's cars slowly transformed into sedans and luxury cars aiming for driving comfort and security rather than performance.
  
  

Corvette

• All throughout the 70s, the third-generation Corvette was released on the market. Labeled as C3, convertible and coupe models were available. This was also the decade when Corvette started its transformation from a muscle car to a sports car. In 1973, it was equipped with an L-48 engine with 190 HP. Body mount and radial tires were also revamped to improve the riding experience. The bumper was revised to comply with federal laws. As of 2010, the price of a 70s model ranges from $10,000 up to $25,000 depending on the car's condition.
  
  

Chevelle

• In 1973 Chevelle's third generation was released on the market. It featured major changes in design and performance. The previous Chevelles were marketed as muscle cars, but the 1973 model showed signs that Chevrolet was reinventing Chevelles for better driving comfort rather than performance. The front suspension was improved to provide better handling. The SS-454 package was also included in the LS model that were equipped with either a 350 or 454 engine. In 2010, Chevelles from the mid-70s range from $3,000 to $5,000 in price, but the muscle cars from the first two years of production are sometimes sold in auctions for $25,000 to $100,000.
  
  

Camaro

• The second generation of the Camaro came on the market in the 1970s. The first generation did not gain enough popularity and was only considered as an impulsive response by Chevy to manufacture a competitor to the Ford Mustang. The 1970 Camaro was longer and wider than its predecessor. A lot of body changes were also introduced, improving its interior and driving comfort. The most popular model for the Camaro during this period was the Z28 Special Performance Package. It is equipped with a V8 engine derived from Corvette and was available with an automatic transmission. With a high-performance drivetrain, a tuned suspension and a 12-bolt rear axle, it is considered to be one of the best versions of Camaro ever produced. A Camaro from the 70s ranges from $5,000 to $10,000 in price while top-of-the-line models like the Z28 can bring up to $50,000 or more depending on its condition as of 2010.
