How to Plant Rosemarinus Officinalis Seeds
- 1). Remove the weeds, grass and debris in a site located in full sunlight. Loosen the soil to the depth of four inches with a shovel. Break the soil clumps up with the edge of a garden hoe. Rake the soil smooth and level.
- 2). Add one inch of sand or vermiculite to the soil. Sprinkle 1/2 cup of 10-10-10 slow-release fertilizer per 100 square feet of planting area on top of the soil. Mix this into the top four inches of soil. Rosemary seeds do not like peat moss or soggy soil.
- 3). Pour one inch of warm water in a bowl and sprinkle the rosemary seeds into the water. Make sure that each seed is dunked under the water. Let the seeds soak for two hours before planting. Drain the water from the seeds.
- 4). Sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil. Try to space the seeds out so you do not have clumps of seeds. Cover the seeds with one-quarter inch of sand or vermiculite.
- 5). Mist the area with water until the soil is moist. Do not let the soil dry out. It takes about 21 days for rosemary seeds to sprout. The seedlings grow very slowly the first year, but growth will speed up in the second year.
