Good Male Skin Care is Easy
It used to be that the concept of skin care was totally alien to men, however today more and more men are now realising the importance of looking after their skin and the market is awash now with male skin care products.
Male skin care routine
Although mens skin is very different from women's the basic daily routine required for healthy skin is very similar. As with woman's skin care male skin care should start with cleansing and a water soluble cleanser is recommended. Cleansing helps remove the dirt, grease and pollutants from the skin and helps to prevent those dulling blocked pores. Male skin has a natural tendency to be oily, thereby making thorough cleansing more essential. Cleansing should ideally be done twice a day. Soap should wherever possible not be used to clean the face.
Male skin care obviously involves shaving and caring and after care. This is why shaving foam/gel/cream and after shave lotions are the highest selling male personal care products, so this is where careful choices should be made. One of the main considerations in choosing shaving products should be the skin type, the degree of oiliness differs greatly from person to person. Alcohol-based aftershave should be avoided and good quality razors should always be used, to reduce damage. Swivel-head razors are preferable as they reduce the likelihood of cuts. Always be gentle when using your razor. Do not scratch it against your skin, use a soft and smooth action, you are not trying to remove skin, just hair.
Male skin is generally thicker and more oily, having larger pores and more active sebaceous glands. However, with regular shaving, skin can become very dehydrated, therefore a good moisturiser should be part of any mans personal care cupboard. After shaving a moisturising gel or cream should always be applied and even better use a shaving foam or gel with a built-in moisturiser. Moisturisers should be patted gently over the face and massaged in using circular upward strokes.
Athough a man's skin is less susceptible to cancer caused by UV radiation, using a sunscreen is also important and a moisturiser that includes a sunscreen is a good idea. Male skin care products which contain natural ingredients like aloe vera, sea salt and coconut etc. are all great, as are naturally antiseptic oils such as lavender and tea tree.
Skin care is not as difficult and time-consuming as a lot of men may think, just a few minutes a day is all it takes to have healthy skin which will stay younger looking for longer.
