Inflatable Boats Production Process

    Fabric

    • The first step in producing an inflatable boat is to choose the type of fabric that will be used. Polyurethane, PVC and rubber fabrics are all common, but each type will require different treatments and uses. For instance, rubber fabric is best used on small inflatables. PVC is stronger and could be used on larger vessels. Once the type of fabric has been chosen, it's cut to the necessary size and the production process begins.

    Assembly

    • In some older crafts, there are pontoons inside the fabric. In modern boats, though, the fabric is sewn together to make the outer hull airtight and giving it a certain shape. Once all of the seams have been stitched into place (whether by machine or by hand), the floor of the inflatable is put into place. This floor is usually made of wood or plastic. Though it isn't strictly necessary, it is often included in inflatable boats. Once the floor is installed, all other accessories, such as the ports for the oars and any rubber cleats, are also attached to the inflatable.

    Quality Control

    • In order to ensure inflatable boats being produced are seaworthy, quality control tests need to be performed. The boat chosen to receive the tests will be inflated to the appropriate pressure and then the seams are checked to ensure they hold tight and there's no leakage. The boat will be struck and pressured from the outside to make sure it can accept regular wear and tear. If the boat passes the test, it and its particular production group are passed along.
