Wrinkles! – Understanding What They Are and What Causes Them
For a lot of people, when they first discover that first wrinkle on their face it can be something quite depressing. But there really is no reason to get depressed over facial wrinkles or aging for the matter, with all of the different anti-aging agents available there are ways to slow down this process and stay young looking longer. However; it is a good thing to know what makes these wrinkles to form so it will be easier for you to figure out how to stop them or at least slow them down.
Did you know, that there are two different types of wrinkles? There is what is called the dynamic wrinkle and that is only found or seen when the muscles under the skin are contracted. This will cause the skin to fold over onto itself because of the contraction of the muscles. This is the type of wrinkle that can happen no matter how old you might be, but do tend to appear more with aging skin. Everyone has heard of Botox, so if you hear that someone has gotten a Botox injection you can bet it's treatment for those types of wrinkles. What Botox does is literally paralyze the muscles under the wrinkle and then the skin won't fold over itself when you make different expressions.
The other kind of wrinkle is call the static wrinkle. This will appear even if your muscles are not contracting. These types of wrinkles are caused from the loss of collagen and elastin that helps to keep the skin keep it's shape. So when these two components decrease, the skin finds it hard to go back to it's original state after facial expressions. This is what causes the permanent wrinkles on our faces.
Static wrinkles are formed when our skin does not regenerate the new skin cells and sheds the old ones with with the same frequency as it did when we were younger. So this causes a slow thinning of the top surface of our skin. The ability of our skin will also lose the ability to take in the nutrients that are important for the skin. Another reason is because there are more free radicals being produced and this damages cells that are aging even further.
When there the nutrition is reduced then this means that there is less collagen made. Collagen is what helps to make the structure of the actual skin. With less collagen the skin begins to get loose, begins to sag and wrinkle. Elastin also helps to keep the skin elastic like and when this begins to decrease we will see the skin lose it's ability to quickly spring back.
The main reason that we begin to lose collagen and elastin is due to the fact that many of us have exposed our skin through the years to the harmful rays of the sun for far too long and without any protection. This damages the skins ability to produce enough of both of these components. The other reason of course is due to the aging process.
One of the easiest ways to cut down on and slow down on the appearance of static wrinkles is simple to not overexpose your skin to the rays of the sun. Always make sure that you go out wearing sunscreen that has at least a SPF of 15.
There are ways to help to increase the production of collagen and one of those ways is to get a prescription for Retin A. This has been proven to be able to stimulate your skin cells to actually make more collagen. There are also treatments that you can buy over the counter as well and they do show signs of slowing down the process of wrinkles, for example any products that claim to contain alpha hydroxy acids as well as Vitamin C and E topical creams will help reduce damage caused by free radicals.
