How to Remove a Radio From a Late Model Chevy Cavalier
- 1). Remove the dashboard reveal molding that covers the center part of the dash; pry the molding off with the small screwdriver -- it is held on by metal spring clips inserted into holes in the metal part of the dash.
- 2). Remove the four 8 mm bolts securing the radio in the dash using a 8 mm nut driver. Pull the radio out of the dash, unplug the radio harness and pull the antennae out.
- 3). Install the original radio by plugging in the antennae and harness plug.
- 4). Install the new radio by first plugging in the harness adapter to the vehicle harness and the opposite end into the back of the radio. Plug in the antennae.
- 5). Install a new faceplate adapter if a new radio is being installed. Usually the new radio does not match the existing hole in the dash, so a radio faceplate kit will need to be purchased; this will make the radio look original.
- 6). Install the four bolts and tighten them with the nut drivers. Install the reveal molding by aligning the spring clips with the holes in the dash and pressing it into place.
