Traffic, traffic, traffic - love it, right?! It depends on what context you're using in it - but in this case, we are talking about BLOG traffic.
How to get more traffic to your blog has been the age-old question since blogs first started appearing on the Internet in the 1990′s.
In fact, one of the first recognized bloggers began his blog in 1994 and is still going strong today - check out Justin Hall's blog.
Blogs are an incredible testament to the power of the world wide web.
Everything from the comments we make to the people we friend on Facebook becomes molded in the web, as a footprint impression in concrete, it can only be covered up, not deleted.
But our blogs are extensions of us and each of us has a reason for writing them - What is yours? To share your recipes, to create a photo album for friends and family, to host giveaways, to market something, to make money? One of the first steps in blogging, that is so often overlooked, but of vital importance, is to recognize and acknowledge what your intentions are with your blog.
Pinpointing your goals is as important as writing your content.
But then comes traffic - or people to read what you just wrote.
And you can't drive traffic if you don't know which direction you are going with your blog.
With that in mind, there are hundreds, and I mean hundreds, of ways of getting more traffic to your blog.
Luckily for you, I have done them all - well maybe not ALL of them, but a good majority, paid and unpaid.
Of all the traffic methods I have used, past and present, one of the best ways to attract more visitors and, in turn readers, is to get involved with the community you are targeting.
Let me say it again - get involved with the community you are targeting.
I'm divulging one of the best methods to you.
To put it in perspective, there are probably a top 10 I use on a regular basis.
This is just one way.
But getting out there and making connections is something you can do right now and you can see results right away.
Picture this...
You are a brand new blogger with a spiffy looking blog.
The goal for your prized blog is to log all of your prized recipes, from grandparents, friends, other relatives and even ones you created.
You are making a collection of all your recipes with the intentions of one day being able to earn some money from it all.
Exactly how you want to earn money from is still unclear to you, but right now you are content blogging about recipes and food.
You have been doing this for about a month and one thing is perplexing to you - why aren't people coming to your blog??? Your content is great and your blog is attractive, why aren't you getting traffic? Well, the answer to this is simple - YOU have to let people know about your blog, YOU have to market it.
In essence, everything you do online requires marketing at some level.
And, one of the quickest and easiest ways to market your blog is to get involved with a community and talk.
Google 'food blogs' or 'recipe forums' and something is bound to come up worth joining and discussing...
Talk about your latest recipe or even your latest flop.
Talk about your blog and what you have been doing with it.
Make connections with other 'foodies' and read their blogs.
"Pay it forward" means a lot of things to a lot of different people, but in how to get more traffic to your blog it means give first, then receive.
