Gaylord Tonneau Covers - A Review of the TL-Series

103 4
If you want to buy a hard tonneau cover and want the best then you should take a serious look at what a Gaylord TL-Series tonneau cover has to offer.
Apart from one or two considerations about this cover, it could be the best purchase you've made in years.
The TL-Series is a popular seller for Gaylord.
The features that come as standard are generous, the optional extras are desirable yet functional, the overall look is sleek and stylish, and when paint-matched it looks factory fitted.
Although it's a fiberglass tonneau cover it's surprisingly light.
The company claims that the cover can be self-installed and that no special tools or drilling is required.
While this is true, you are probably going to need a pair of helping hands when you install it.
The cover is mounted on the truck bed by means of a very ingenious clamping system called the EZ Grip Clamp on System.
Directly fitted on to the frame are two hydraulically operated struts, which the company calls the EZ Lift Hinge Assist System.
What this actually means is that when you open the lid, the hinges automatically lift up the lid into the fully open position.
This makes opening and closing extremely easy; all you need is one finger.
When fully open, the hinges keep the lid in the open position, so you don't have to hold open the cover when getting stuff in or out of your truck's bed.
This also makes it very safe to use.
There are other safety features such as an interior emergency release latch and a single lock with dust cover.
Folks like hard tonneau covers because they are generally more weather-tight than soft versions.
The double neoprene seals that come with the TL-Series will stop any water penetration of the bed of the truck, even when doing long highway motoring.
Like many products these days there are the 'optional extras'.
Mostly, extras are usually all style and no content.
The same could be said about the optional Speedsturr wing and the interior carpeted headliner that can both be fitted, however, the Keyless Remote Access with 12 volt interior dome light is, I think a useful addition if you can stretch the budget that much farther.
Cost is probably the main drawback of buying a Gaylord truck cover.
They are expensive and many would rather pay less for a polymer hard tonno cover or even opt for one of the many fine soft versions available today.
Although they are lightweight for a fiberglass cover, they are still heavy.
If you think you will be taking off your cover frequently (when you need to haul large cargo) you might regret buying a fiberglass lid.
While taking off the TL-Series can be done by one person, putting it back on really is a two-man operation.
And, if you do remove the cover, you've got the problem of finding adequate storage space in your garage.
If you won't be removing your cover often and have your heart set on having a stylish truck tonneau cover that when paint-matched to your truck looks factory fitted, then you won't find better than the Gaylord TL-Series tonneau cover.
