Great Teachers With Tails
We can learn a lot from dogs particularly about living in the moment and love.
They have enormous capacity for both.
Their orientation in the present keeps them anticipating and excited about what is going to happen right now.
My dogs, merely hearing the words, "walk" or the question "do you want to go?" are up and ready.
They do not care where we are walking but from flat on the floor in front of the heater they are ready.
Imagine what we could overcome if we approached the minutes of our day with the kind of excitement and enthusiasm Truman and Jackson have for a walk in the rain.
To say that dogs love is to personify their behavior.
But isn't it love they demonstrate by being up and greeting you at the door or snuggling up close and sharing body heat on a chilly evening.
They are giving in their fullest capacity and it makes me happy.
How could this not be love?I can count on their warmth and gift of excitement.
It calls me to be kinder, gentler and more human.
I am better because of it.
We humans often get caught in emotional storms that keep us out of the moment and without being in the moment it is easy to forget how to love.
We have the ability to change.
We humans have the unique talent of choosing how to frame our lives.
We have only to look and like a guide dog leading a blind man.
My dogs show me everyday that in the moments of life there is love.
