Adjust Recipes and Learn How to Create Your Own Dishes

Have you ever known a really fabulous cook? Somebody you really respected for their abilities in the kitchen? You know the kind.
They can just throw some ingredients together and create a wonderfully delicious meal.
Are you, maybe, just a little bit envious of them? Well don't be.
You can develop your own talents in the kitchen with just a little practice.
Sure, when one of your gourmet friends wows you with a fantastic, complex dish they created, it can seem a little far-fetched that you too can create such a delectable dish.
But, that may be your biggest obstacle.
Don't shoot for that complex dish which requires much skill and experience.
Why should you? Your gourmet friend didn't start out cooking super complex meals.
The first step in learning to create your own dishes is finding something someone else did right.
Do you have a recipe that you enjoy, but think it can possibly be improved upon? You know, it's good, but doesn't knock your socks off.
I'm sure you have quite a few, actually.
Well choose one and read through it.
Find something you can do to adjust that recipe to "make it your own".
That is, change some ingredient.
Either substitute one thing for another or maybe add something altogether.
Let me give you some examples; • If your recipe calls for a type of mustard, play around with other types of mustards.
Like substitute honey mustard for yellow mustard to give it a sweeter taste or maybe some horseradish mustard to give it some zing.
• Add sauté or caramelized onions to just about anything.
• Play around with your herbs and spices.
Add a little of this or that and note the change it had on the dish.
• Change the sauce.
Maybe your recipe calls for a marinara sauce, well put a white sauce on it.
I could go on, but I think you get the idea.
Now you may be thinking, "Come on, that's not creating a recipe! That's just changing somebody else's creation.
" Well, you're right, but this is just the beginning.
Learning to create your own recipes isn't going to happen overnight.
The more you adjust recipes the more you will get a knack for what works and what doesn't and what work with this and what works with that.
At the same time, you'll be creating your own unique flavor.
This flavor will someday be your signature.
Your friends will come to know your dishes for their spicy zip, earthy herbs or Asian flair.
Before you know it, you'll be combining adjustments.
You'll remember what you did to with that chicken recipe last month and apply it to this recipe along with another adjustment.
After a few adjustments, you can start calling the recipe your own.
Most of the recipes I call my own, started out as somebody else's.
I just tweaked and adjusted until I got the dish the way I liked it.
Sometimes the adjustments were simple.
Other times what I ended up with barely resembles the original.
However, the more you practice this the more your skills and abilities will improve.
Keep at it and before you know it, you will create a recipe using a number of tricks you developed and it'll be all yours.
Not based on somebody else's recipe.
It'll probably surprise you when it happens.
In fact, the first time I did it, I didn't realize the dish was a "Tim Seelbach original" until about the third time I made it.
