Pearl Harbor - Learning About the History of WW II In the Pacific Are You?

It seems that every year more and more Americans forget about the war in the Pacific, about Pearl Harbor, and about how the United States of America and Japan were once at war, even though now we are staunch allies, and favored trading partners.
Still, it's important that we remember our history, and equally important that we understand, and learn the lessons of the past, in case we have to fight future wars in the Pacific.
Not long ago, I was discussing with a college student about their upcoming assignment in a week or two, they had to read just shy of 1,000 pages on the Japanese versus the US war in the Pacific in WW II.
They cringed at having to do all that in one-week.
Well, I cringed too, but for a different reason, so let me explain.
You see, that war was far too important and far too much happened from pre-Pearl Harbor to the unconditional surrender of the Japanese.
And had we not beaten the Japanese the Russians would have, so the Japanese were lucky actually, that is if one could say that losing a war is lucky.
The advice I gave to the war college student went something like this; rather than reading 900+ pages of WWII in the Pacific, you should just watch the videos, they are much better, maybe 20 hours of them, but if you watch them straight through you can get it done on a Saturday.
You will have a better basis for it all, then reading the book will be a cake-walk.
900+ pages isn't enough to claim knowledge of the topic.
If that's all they have you do, then you ought to spend some time and really study that topic.
It's important stuff to know.
It matters.
Besides that a war college class should spend a semester on that topic, not one-week, that's just pathetic, I thought this was a war-college, and those who will be serving in the US Armed forces as officers someday, well, my gosh, they should know this stuff like the back of their hands, one-week studying WWII pacific? Crazy, I say, simply nuts.
I've been reviewing material and watching shows on it for 30-years, and there is still more to know you see.
Indeed, it is my sincere hope that you will please consider all this and think on it.
There's no sense in being doomed to repeat such a traumatic set of events in history.
