Psychosis

Definition: An abnormal state of consciousness in which the higher functions of the mind are disrupted. In psychosis, some combination of a person's perceptions, thought processes, beliefs, and emotions appear to become disconnected from reality.
Examples: In the worst of her psychosis, Sherrie believed her husband was conspiring with the voices in the television to kill her.
