How to Get Dreadlocks for African Hair
- 1). Section hair into one- to two-inch squares to make round dreads. Secure each section at the scalp with a small rubber band.
- 2). Comb each section in a clockwise motion so that the ends catch in the teeth and can begin twisting. Apply heavy dread wax to each fully twisted section.
- 3). Fasten the roots and ends with small rubber bands for the first couple of weeks to keep dreads from losing their shape. Make sure the rubber bands aren't so tight that they break hairs.
- 4). Twist dreads daily by hand to keep them locked.
- 1). Grow hair until it is 1/2 inch long and thick and curly. Don't section short hair as you would with longer hair.
- 2). Brush hair in small clockwise circles with a soft-bristled brush. Continue until little balls of hair are formed.
- 3). Twist little hair nubs into dreads by hand. Work in heavy dread wax to speed up the maturation process.
